The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Local Government Inspector for Abeokuta South, in Ogun State, Abass Olalekan, is reported to have been nabbed by the Police following the death of a female corps member serving in the State, Victoria Ariyo.
According to reports, Ariyo died in Abeokuta fee days ago, shortly after another female corps member, Mary Adeleye, serving in the same Local Government, died in circumstances that remain unclear.
Ariyo’s death last Tuesday has been linked to complications arising from a terminated pregnancy. Her remains were buried at Kobape Cemetery along the Abeokuta-Sagamu road.
According to reports Olalekan, is being accused of having a romantic relationship with Ariyo, which allegedly led to the pregnancy and the subsequent abortion that unfortunately claimed her life.
Confirming Olalekan”s arrest and detention, a Police source said he is currently held at the State command headquarters in Eleweran.
Ogun State Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said Ariyo’s death is under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department but did not comment on Olalekan’s detention or the allegations.
The NYSC in Ogun State has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident as at the time of filing this report. All efforts to get the State NYSC officials to comment proved abortive.
