Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has described the 2026 National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a shining example of effective organisation and robust security, noting that the event’s success was the result of deliberate planning and strategic innovations.
Gov. Abiodun, who chaired the convention’s Venue Subcommittee, made the remarks while addressing Journalists during the event held at Eagle Square in Abuja.
He explained that the committee began its work by reviewing previous party conventions to identify recurring operational challenges, particularly in the areas of crowd control and venue security.
According to the Governor, members of the subcommittee conducted an early inspection of the venue shortly after their inauguration, leading to a comprehensive redesign of the arena to improve coordination and movement within the convention grounds.
Abiodun disclosed that the team carried out simulations to evaluate the movement of approximately 12,000 participants, ensuring that entry and exit points could effectively manage large crowds.
“We examined the shortcomings from previous conventions and redesigned the arena to address them. Our objective was to deliver a seamless, well-coordinated and world-class convention,” he stated.
To ensure proper coordination, Abiodun said different entry points were designated for specific categories of attendees, while emergency exit routes were strategically mapped out across the venue.
He also noted that surveillance cameras were installed at key locations within and around the arena to monitor activities and strengthen security throughout the convention.
The Governor revealed that the event recorded about 11,000 attendees, comprising 8,400 delegates, 1,800 committee members and about 200 VIP guests.
Abiodun expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence reposed in him to lead the venue committee, adding that the smooth conduct of the convention reflects the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
In her remarks, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, described the convention as unprecedented, pointing to the participation of delegates from all 36 states of the federation and commending the organisers for delivering a well-structured national gathering.
Also speaking, the Senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, said the convention would be remembered as a landmark event, attributing its success to the strong leadership and detailed coordination by the organising committee.
