Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has restated his administration’s resolve to uphold fairness, equity and inclusive governance, assuring residents that development will continue to spread evenly across all parts of the state.
The Governor gave the assurance on Tuesday February 3, at the State Banquet held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, as part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Ogun State.
Reflecting on the state’s journey since its creation on February 3, 1976, Abiodun noted that Ogun has steadily evolved into Nigeria’s industrial hub, a feat he attributed to deliberate planning, sustained investments and policy consistency over the years.
He said his administration has placed strong emphasis on human capital development, education, housing, road infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and sports, resulting in what he described as unprecedented growth and transformation across critical sectors.
“I am deeply grateful for the privilege to serve the people of Ogun State. I remain committed to fulfilling every promise made, while governing with fairness, equity and justice for all,” the governor said.
According to him, the state’s development agenda has been implemented evenly across Ogun West, Ogun East and Ogun Central since 2019, helping to restore Ogun’s relevance and competitiveness on both national and global stages.
Abiodun also highlighted the growing international recognition of Adire fabric, describing it as a symbol of Ogun’s cultural renaissance and expanding creative economy.
He urged residents to continue supporting the government, pledging to consolidate on the vision of the state’s founding fathers and position Ogun as a model of sustainable development in Nigeria.
In her remarks, Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, praised past administrations for laying solid foundations and expressed appreciation to citizens for their sustained confidence in the present government.
Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, described the state’s 50-year developmental trajectory as impressive, noting significant progress in governance and infrastructure.
The Chief Judge of Ogun State, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, said the expansion of judicial divisions across the state has improved access to justice and strengthened the rule of law.
Former Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, observed that Ogun’s industrial capacity and human capital have firmly positioned it among Nigeria’s leading states.
Speaking on behalf of former deputy governors, Senator Sefiu Kaka commended the consistency of leadership in the state and lauded the Abiodun administration’s focus on sustainable development.
The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, applauded the transformation of Abeokuta and improvements in security, urging the government to sustain the current momentum.
Several dignitaries at the event, including former Military Administrator, Col. Daniel Akintonde (rtd), industrialist S.K. Onafowokan, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola and Hon. Isiaka Ibrahim, also praised the progress recorded over the past five decades.
The celebration featured a vibrant cultural performance titled Golden Strides, the cutting of the anniversary cake led by former governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, and musical performances by renowned artistes.
