The Ogun State Government says it has completed more than 1,600 kilometres of roads since 2019 and remains on track to deliver at least 2,000 kilometres before Governor Dapo Abiodun leaves office.
The Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, disclosed this during an interview on Sunrise Daily, noting that construction activities are currently underway in all 20 Local Government Areas of the State.
According to Akinsanya, the administration inherited over 4,000 kilometres of deteriorated roads and responded with a deliberate, statewide infrastructure blueprint aimed at boosting rural connectivity, strengthening agricultural value chains, unlocking economic corridors and improving access to educational institutions.
He emphasised that road development has not been restricted to any particular axis, stating that projects are simultaneously ongoing across the State.
Among the flagship interventions is the reconstruction of the 70-kilometre Ota–Abeokuta road, alongside extensive rehabilitation works in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo and Akute. Roads once considered impassable — including Ajuwon–Akute, Alhaji Kosoko–Akute and Yakoyo–Alagbole — have now been restored, significantly easing movement between Ogun communities and neighbouring Lagos State.
Akinsanya added that construction continues from Ota through Akute to Ijoko, with several stretches already delivered and others progressing steadily.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, maintained that infrastructure delivery under the current administration has been evenly distributed across all Local Governments.
He recalled that Governor Abiodun pledged in 2019 to democratise infrastructure and extend development to every part of the state, insisting that the promise is being fulfilled. Akinmade described references to limited road delivery in certain areas as misleading, arguing that such claims ignore the broader scale of projects executed Statewide.
He further revealed that several roads have recently been commissioned in Abeokuta and other towns, stressing that infrastructure expansion remains a cornerstone of the administration’s development agenda, particularly as Ogun continues to experience population growth due to its proximity to Lagos.
The officials reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to modernising road infrastructure across Ogun State, expressing confidence that the 2,000-kilometre benchmark will be achieved before the administration concludes its tenure.
