The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, with Governor Dapo Abiodun crediting the administration’s economic reforms for stabilising Nigeria’s finances and restoring investor confidence.
The endorsement was adopted at the party’s Expanded Stakeholders Strategic Meeting held in Abeokuta. The gathering brought together serving and former Senators, Members of the House of Representatives, Members of the Ogun State Executive Council, representatives of the APC National Working Committee, Council Chairmen, Ward Executives and other party stakeholders from across the State.
Speaking at the meeting, Abiodun emphasised that the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange system in May 2023 marked a turning point in Nigeria’s economic management. He argued that the dismantling of the multiple exchange rate regime corrected structural imbalances that had long undermined fiscal stability.
According to the Governor, the reforms have begun yielding measurable outcomes, including improved fuel supply Nationwide, easing inflationary pressure, a stabilising Naira and Foreign reserves estimated at about $45 billion. He referenced remarks credited to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria describing the reforms as central to the Country’s recovery efforts.
Abiodun also highlighted ongoing Federal infrastructure projects, including the 700-kilometre coastal highway and the 1,000-kilometre Sokoto–Badagry superhighway, noting that such projects are strengthening long-term economic prospects and attracting renewed investor interest.
Linking National reforms to state-level gains, the Governor said Ogun State’s Gross Domestic Product has risen to ₦17 trillion. He pointed to over 7,000 housing units delivered, expanded primary healthcare centres, job creation initiatives and youth and women empowerment programmes as evidence of sustained development.
He further disclosed that commercial oil drilling has commenced in Ogun Waterside under the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), while plans are underway for a large-scale dairy and cattle ranch project in Ipokia Local Government Area and Yewa South with federal backing.
On party matters, Abiodun described the unanimous endorsement as a reflection of unity within the Ogun APC and announced plans to build a new state party secretariat within six months. He also pledged a smooth and transparent transition process at the end of his tenure.
The Governor concluded that continuity in leadership at the Federal level would enable ongoing reforms to be consolidated and sustained beyond the current term.
