The Ogun State Government has announced Tuesday, February 3, 2026, as a public holiday in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the state.
The declaration, made by Governor Dapo Abiodun, is aimed at allowing residents across the state to actively take part in activities marking the Golden Jubilee. This was disclosed in a statement released on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.
The statement described the milestone as a celebration of five decades of Ogun State’s political evolution, steady socio-economic growth, and enduring contributions to national development.
Residents were urged to observe the anniversary in a spirit of unity and peaceful coexistence, as the state government reaffirmed its commitment to consolidating previous gains and accelerating its development agenda for the collective good of the people.
Mr. Talabi noted that the governor encouraged citizens to utilise the public holiday to participate fully in the commemorative programmes lined up for the 50th anniversary of the Gateway State.
Ogun State was formally created on February 3, 1976. The Golden Jubilee celebrations feature a wide range of activities designed to honour the past, celebrate present achievements, and project a bold, prosperous future for the state.
