The Ogun State Police Command has intensified its crackdown on cult-related crimes with the arrest of 14 suspects during what authorities described as a clandestine initiation exercise in the state, following actionable intelligence on plans to disrupt public order.
Operatives of the command carried out the arrest after receiving credible reports that suspected members of a cult group were converging at a secluded location to induct new members, an activity capable of undermining security in the affected communities.
A joint team comprising officers from the Anti-Cultism Unit, SWAT, and divisional police units swiftly moved in on the location, arresting 13 males and one female suspected to be involved in the unlawful gathering.
Items recovered during the operation include locally made firearms, live ammunition, charms, cult paraphernalia, mobile phones, and several vehicles, some of which were allegedly used to transport the suspects to the initiation ground.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance policy on cultism, warning that individuals found engaging in secret cult activities would face the full weight of the law.
He also called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to caution young people against cult involvement, while urging residents to continue to support security agencies with timely intelligence.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of police inquiries.
