The Forum of Local Government Vice Chairmen has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State to exhibit transparent accountability by explaining his handling of previous local government allocations that accrued to the state between 2023 and 2024 before engaging “media propaganda” over funds withheld by the federal government in 2025.
Making the call at the weekend in a statement signed by its Chairman, Victor Fatoki, the Vice chairman alleged that councils in the state have little or nothing to o show for the humongous allocations received by the state.
Claiming the Adeleke administration received over ₦200 billion in local government allocations, they wondered why there is no meaningful development across the councils in the state. “We are calling on Governor Ademola Adeleke to demonstrate transparency by accounting for the funds accrued to Osun local governments between December 2022 and January 2025.
“The figures available to us show that over ₦200 billion was received, yet most local governments have little or nothing to justify these allocations. If you visit Atakunmosa East, Ila, Ifedayo, Boluwaduro or Obokun today, you will struggle to identify projects or interventions that justify the billions reportedly allocated to them.
“This raises serious questions about financial management and governance at the grassroots. We are amazed by the governor’s zeal in demanding the release of allocations he claims were held by the federal government for 11 months, while showing little enthusiasm in accounting for the over ₦200 billion already received between 2023 and 2024,” the statement read in part..
Fatoki added that it is transparency that builds trust and urged the governor to tell the people of the state how he has been spending local government funds before blaming the federal government. “Transparency builds trust. Before blaming external forces, the governor should show the Osun people clearly how past local government funds were spent. This is not about politics. It is about accountability, transparency, and ensuring that public funds truly benefit the people at the grassroots,” Fatoki added.
