The Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) have extended the deadline for the ongoing constable recruitment exercise following low application turnout from some states, including Lagos.
The recruitment portal, which was initially scheduled to close on January 25, 2026, will now remain open until February 8, 2026. The extension is aimed at encouraging wider participation and ensuring equitable representation across all states of the federation.
In a statement issued on Monday, the PSC explained that although hundreds of thousands of applications have been received nationwide, there has been a noticeable imbalance in submissions, with several states recording significantly fewer applicants than expected. Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra were listed among states with relatively low application figures.
According to the commission, the disparity prompted a review of the recruitment process, leading to the decision to grant additional time for eligible candidates from underrepresented states to apply.
The PSC noted that the recruitment exercise is designed to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force through fair and inclusive selection of qualified Nigerians, adding that equal opportunity remains a core objective of the process.
Applicants are reminded that registration is free and can only be completed through the official recruitment portal. The commission also warned prospective candidates to avoid fraudsters and individuals claiming to offer recruitment assistance in exchange for money.
Meanwhile, the PSC has appealed to state governments, traditional rulers, community leaders and relevant stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns and encourage qualified youths to take advantage of the extended deadline.
