Chelsea FC of England overcame Napoli in a dramatic clash at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to achieve their targets for the league phase of the Champions League.
The game started positively for the Blues, with Enzo Fernandez converting a penalty within 20 minutes.
After that, however, it felt as if the wheels fell off. Antonio Vergara and Rasmus Hojlund scored before the break, taking advantage of Chelsea’s unfamiliar defensive shape.
Liam Rosenior’s team was quite underwhelming in the first minutes after the break, too, but at this point, Joao Pedro took over.
First, he produced an absolute stunner to equalise and then, for the second game in a row, scored the decisive goal after a fast break.
Thanks to the win, Chelsea have qualified for the Round of 16 directly, without the need to play an extra play-off round. The Blues’ potential opponents will be unveiled on Friday.
