An Edo State-based Medical Doctor, Abu Ibrahim, who was abducted alongside his brother earlier this month, has been discharged from hospital and is now recuperating at home.
His father, Tahir Momoh, confirmed the development on Wednesday, noting that Ibrahim left the hospital on Monday after receiving treatment for injuries sustained during his captivity.
In an emotional statement released through his father, the doctor thanked friends, relatives, and members of the public for the overwhelming support his family received during what he described as a “dark and frightening” period.
Ibrahim recalled that he and his brother were kidnapped on January 2 while returning home from work. Although he survived the ordeal, his younger brother was killed by the abductors despite efforts by the family to secure their release.
“Many people—friends, acquaintances, and even strangers—rose with love and compassion to support me,” the statement read. “You stood by me financially, emotionally, through prayers, encouragement, and various efforts. None of these sacrifices went unnoticed.”
While praying for his brother’s soul to rest in peace, Ibrahim said he would continue to carry his memory daily, seeking divine strength and wisdom to fulfil his brother’s dreams and preserve the legacy he left behind.
He also expressed gratitude to those who reached out in various ways, noting that their kindness reaffirmed his belief in humanity, love, and compassion even in the darkest moments. Leaving judgment to God, he said he trusted in divine justice over those responsible for his brother’s death.
Speaking further, Momoh acknowledged the contributions of individuals, groups, and corporate bodies who supported the family, including members of the Rotary Club, alumni associations, community groups, and prominent personalities from Edo State and beyond. He also praised the efforts of local vigilantes, security agencies—including the police, DSS, and the Army—as well as hunters and the media for keeping the case in public view.
The Edo State Police Command had confirmed the abduction on January 3. The brothers were reportedly kidnapped on January 2 while attempting to access their residence after work. During Ibrahim’s eventual release, he sustained a gunshot wound. His freedom came after the family paid a ransom of N50 million, but his brother was killed by the kidnappers.
