The Ogun State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, in collaboration with the Ijebu Ode Local Government, has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging the suspension of some prominent traditional chiefs in Ijebu land.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, the authorities debunked claims that the Kakanfo of Ijebu land, Chief Abimbola Okenla; the Lapoekun of Ijebu land, Chief Tunde Odulaja; and the Madasa of Ijebu land, Chief Lekan Oshifeso, had been suspended from the Council of Chiefs.
They categorically stated that no such suspension has been effected or approved by any recognised traditional institution or by the Ogun State Government. According to the statement, the report is the handiwork of mischief makers bent on causing confusion and disharmony within Ijebu land.
The Ministry and the local government further explained that chieftaincy matters are governed by established laws, customs, and laid-down procedures, none of which has been initiated in respect of the named chiefs.
Members of the public were therefore urged to disregard the unfounded reports and to rely solely on official government channels for accurate and verified information on chieftaincy and governance-related issues.
The statement was jointly signed by the Chairman of Ijebu Ode Local Government, Hon. Dare Alebiosu, and the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat. It was dated January 23, 2025.
