A prominent figure in Ogun State politics and respected community leader, Chief Joju Fadairo, has formally announced his retirement from partisan politics, bringing to a close a political career that spanned several decades at both the State and National levels.
Fadairo made the announcement on Wednesday July 1, 2026, during a world Press Conference held at his private residence in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Abeokuta, where he declared that he was withdrawing from active politics and relinquishing his affiliation with every political party with immediate effect.
The Elder statesman described the decision as a personal one, emphasizing that it was reached after careful reflection and was neither influenced by political disagreements nor external pressure.
“I consider it necessary to clearly state that this decision is purely personal and devoid of any hidden motives or external pressures. It is a well-considered choice made after deep reflection,” he told journalists.
Reflecting on his years in public life, Fadairo said he was satisfied with his contributions to Nigeria’s political development and believed it was time to bow out of partisan politics.
“Having actively participated in the political landscape of our great Nation at both the State and National levels for several decades, I am convinced that I have made my contributions and fulfilled my obligations. I believe the time has come for me to step aside and take a well-deserved rest, in line with the timeless saying that there is a season for everything,” he said.
The former political leader expressed profound appreciation to his family, political associates, loyal supporters, well-wishers and members of the media, acknowledging their unwavering encouragement throughout his political journey.
According to him, the support he received over the years played a significant role in shaping his career and public service.
Fadairo also announced that he would no longer identify with or align himself to any political party, stressing that he would henceforth remain neutral and serve as a father figure to all, irrespective of political affiliation.
He explained that his retirement from partisan politics would enable him to devote more attention to community development, traditional leadership and religious service.
“I hereby declare that, effective immediately, I shall no longer be affiliated with or aligned to any political party. I will henceforth assume the role of a father to all, maintaining neutrality and offering goodwill without partisan inclination,” he stated.
“I will continue to work for the progress of my community and Ogun State and have more time to discharge my traditional responsibilities as the Asiwaju of Ifoland and Fiwagbayi of Egbaland, as well as dedicate myself to the service of the Church of the Lord.”
Reaffirming his position, Fadairo declared that from Wednesday, July 1, 2026, he would remain nonpartisan and would no longer participate in active politics.
He also extended his goodwill to his former political associates, wishing them success in their respective political and personal endeavours.
“I, Chief Joju Fadairo, from this day forward, remain nonpartisan and will no longer be actively involved in politics. I extend my best wishes to all my political associates and wish them well in their various endeavours,” he added.
Fadairo’s retirement marks the end of an era in Ogun State politics, where he has long been regarded as one of the State’s influential political leaders and respected elder statesmen.
Beyond politics, he remains widely known for his traditional titles as Asiwaju of Ifoland and Fiwagbayi of Egbaland, as well as his commitment to community development and religious service.
His decision is expected to attract widespread reactions from political stakeholders across Ogun State and beyond, many of whom have worked with him during his decades-long involvement in Nigeria’s democratic process.
